“When it comes to controlling human beings there is no better instrument than lies. Because, you see, humans live by beliefs. And beliefs can be manipulated. The power to manipulate beliefs is the only thing that counts.”
― Michael Ende
Why do we lie? Why we are so afraid, to tell the truth? What hurts more, and what we can get when we only hold on to a lie? Just because we don’t know the truth, will save us from what is worst? There are so many questions, and no one can answer straight, because we lie every day. When we are born in a world created based on their script, whatever we want, is just an illusion. When we lose ourselves in books and nature, the industry collapses, and while traveling around the world, no one will bring more capital, to their industries. We are working hands, without distinctions, and as long as we fulfill a job, any job, and any work, we are kept in good standards. We are pieces in this puzzle and is just a matter of time until we are replaced in case of any misplacement. We are given a day or two to charge our energy, just to be able to come back on track, where box after box, is getting filled up for their dreams. But when is our time? We have been lied straight in our face with a few days’ vacations, that now, we cannot even take unless we comply with all their regulations and restrictions. We believe we are happy and we will conquer the world, but those beliefs are first changed and twisted, bent in a way that suits a better society. We became just instruments, easy to be manipulated, we follow blinded the path that was promised to be made of gold, just to keep our feet, in soggy mud. Our beliefs are changed in front of our eyes, and we are left to believe that was always written, just like that, but when we blink, a few words are erased, and others are added, making those commandments suit those who benefit the most. Day after day these lies are getting into everything in our lives, and before we know it, there is another reality, that changed in front of our eyes. We stayed too focused on reasons, and we neglected the facts. Just stop for a moment, and think that if you never discovered a lie, it would still exist, but without our acknowledgments, all hidden truths are still lies, too precious for disclosure.
“There is beauty in truth, even if it’s painful. Those who lie, twist life so that it looks tasty to the lazy, brilliant to the ignorant, and powerful to the weak. But lies only strengthen our defects. They don’t teach anything, help anything, fix anything or cure anything. Nor do they develop one’s character, one’s mind, one’s heart or one’s soul.”
― José N. Harris
We always have a choice to make, and we decide for ourselves what is the best one: a painful truth, or a beautiful lie? However, to even realize there are two options, we need to have something that triggers us and doesn’t let us sleep. The truth will always be found at the bottom of the well, and there is a lot of mud that covers up many strong lies. Those lies, one after another, will not teach us anything, will not fix anything, and will not cure anything, but will make us aware that there is clear water under all that dirt. We need to dig deeper to be able to discover there are other options. It will not come easy, and we get many obstacles in front of us, but is even worth it? Would not be easier just to accept it the way we find this life, tasty to the lazy, brilliant to the ignorant, and powerful to the weak? Why should we get dirty on our hands, deal with sleepless nights, and the critiques of others, that don’t understand why we would even waste our time with such a pity? Only when will understand that the truth was hidden in the benefit of lies, our character will start to polish, the mind will clear up, and the heart and soul will become lighter. There is a power in those lies that deform our true selves, hide our beautiful ways of being, and suppress the love we carry. Yet, as long we don’t know the existence of an alternative we cannot choose, and only those who are aware of choices can decide which path to follow, and what will fit them better.
“Knowing can be a curse on a person’s life. I’d traded in a pack of lies for a pack of truth, and I didn’t know which one was heavier. Which one took the most strength to carry around? It was a ridiculous question, though, because once you know the truth, you can’t ever go back and pick up your suitcase of lies. Heavier or not, the truth is yours now.”
― Sue Monk Kidd
When we decide to choose the truth and defend the lies, there is no way back to those paths. Is impossible to overlook them, is hard to accept them, like are not even an option anymore. To be fooled and conned is not what makes us idiots. What really makes us one, is to refuse to look at the truth, and make the conscious decision to believe the lies. Sometimes, we need to look through-line to find the hidden truth, written in small font, to not disturb the pumped-up lines of lies. But as they say, ignorance is bliss, the truth can be a curse for those that look up to it. Trying to convince others, is a losing game because no one wants to be disturbed from their comfortable settings of lies. So then, in a world where things are happening to be different from all, we’ve known, and a new way of seeing things are in front of us, how can we move forward in this world? How can we swallow those lies that are conflicted with our thoughts? We only refer to our truth, that after all, are also personal beliefs, but no matter how harsh and painful it is, we carry on, with pride. Is a curse to know a different way, but to suppress our feelings and emotions to avoid their conflicts, to clench our teeth and murmur through closed mouths what we would shout from our lungs: IS ALL A LIE! But we are living in this closed box with limited possibilities, with eyes that follow our moves, with sensors that trigger bad behavior, and we are reduced to following rules, in this world full of BS.
“Things come apart so easily when they have been held together with lies.”
― Dorothy Allison
We do not have to lie to give a good impression, because those who are kind are always coming back to the surface. We don’t need to give fake smiles before we hide our faces in our hands hiding our tears. We don’t need to accept and perform these lies and be part of statistics. We need to be authentic, to live a simple life based on intelligence, emotions, social skills, and adversity. Comprehension is a gift when all those memories are recalled when solving math or telling poetry, but to maintain peace with ourselves and others, to be responsible, honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine, and considerate, it costs too much? What about building a network of friends, and maintaining it over a longer period of time? What if based on our truth we polish the character and charisma adding in the virtue? What if while taking the rough paths in life, we would come out without losing our minds, our friends, and our families? How many lives would be saved from suicide or will be kept with families, when lies would not decay our souls? How would a world with manual labor be favored and not used as a form of punishment? What if instead of building the road for our children, to prepare them for the road, armed with honesty, ethics, and morals? What if we will not have to remember anything and tell the truth instead of hiding it? Is this another utopian world, or is it just the one we ignore to see, and with closed eyes we swallow blue pills day after day, remaining in the blissful ignorance of illusions?
