Whenever clouds stay still, the stones don’t move and the wind is hush, that is silence. We are looking for peace in silence, but for me, peace is in the places that make me feel alive, the privilege of quiet thoughts and the loved people. I looked in books and listen to the wiser but none of them could tell me that I am the one who has to decide when is the perfect time for peace. We have so much power and I can prove it. The place I live provides the harmony and the environment I need to drink a cup of tea. I don’t need much to feel peace, but children and flowers do add a little more joy, for the place I decided to call it home. With thoughts, I make peace and let them go away when I decide to make them silent. I am selfish but I need to feel the fire, taste the water and see the sky without worrying that might rain. I let them be, and I release the pain and memories that brought me strong; once the lesson is learned, don’t need to keep all the stories in my mind. The one I love, I keep them in my heart, because there is no fear and is only love. Protected and in safe hands, with cuddling nights and sweet mornings, the peace is what describes to live fulfilled and thankful for this life on Earth.
“You have peace,” the old woman said, “when you make it with yourself.”
― Mitch Albom
Nature, beautiful and challenging, a mystery that speaks perfection. The dews stay still on leaves in the morning, when we are still sleepy, and holds it tight in front of the first swords of sunlight. The predator doesn’t move and the prey stays frozen. The dandelions look petrified on the meadow, and lakes are just a mirror facing the sky. The caterpillar hidden in the cocoon is stagnant and animals that hibernate look dead. For a moment at the right time, everything seems dormant. As humans, we stay inert in front of fear too, and we seem lifeless when we suffer. But nothing stays the same and in one moment of rebirth, everything is getting back to life. The peace doesn’t stop when everything gets animated. We have peace when everything continues the natural course and life flows through the veins and ground. Don’t wait to have the silence in order to have the peace, but make the peace part of your silence and enjoy what is around. Butterflies come out from cocoons, hibernating animals are looking for food when they wake up, lakes are full of living creatures and predators would get their prey. A moment to rejuvenate your life is the beginning of a new chapter not the end of the story.
“Sit down before fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconceived notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abysses nature leads, or you shall learn nothing. I have only begun to learn content and peace of mind since I have resolved at all risks to do this.”
― Thomas Huxley
The life you live, the decisions you make and the balance you find in everything you love is peace. The most affordable things are the moments with yourself, with your parents, and the ones who didn’t know how to express their love for you. I can’t judge you for what you think, because I don’t know what hurt you in the past. I can only appreciate the time you spent with me, the kindest words you shared and the love you showed. For the rest is your fight with life to find peace in yourself and leave behind what didn’t serve the purpose. You are more powerful than you think. I wish you could manufacture for yourself a long list of moments that holds between their covers, special times and places with someone that can give you the peace that you desire.
“When I say it’s you I like, I’m talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, the peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.” ―Fred Rogers
